Hello guys,
Welcome to
MikeyToTech
If you are facing “E: Unable locate package” problem in kali Linux and you are searching solution for it then you are at the right place. In this post I will show you step by step how you can fix “E: Unable locate package” problem in kali Linux.
It happens
because of missing repository in the sources.list file that is exists
into the apt folder in Kali Linux. Here I will fix the problem “E: Unable
locate package” by editing sources.list file manually.
Step 1:- first of all you to clean apt by running command apt
clean in the terminal.
Step 2:- After it you have to visit Kali
Network Repositories (apt sources.list). Here I am giving Debian
5.3.9-3kali1 network repositories. To solve Unable locate package
problem write these repositories into the file sources.list file using
any text editor. Here I am using nano editor to edit sources.list file.
So, open
terminal and run command nano /etc/apt/sources.list it will open sources.list
file. You have to write two repositories these are given below and after
writing it press ctrl+X it will ask to save modified buffer press
Y to save and again press enter. As you can see in the following picture :-
Repositories:-
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
deb http://old.kali.org/kali moto main non-free contrib
step 3:- Now you have to update apt
for this type command apt update in the terminal. Now your
problem has been solved and you can check it by installing leafpad
editor in the Kali Linux. To install leafpad type command apt-get
install leafpad in the terminal and press enter. It will install
leafpad.
